Thailand welcomed 38 million foreign visitors last year, raking in more than two trillion baht from tourism.
Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kowsurat, says the government’s tourism measures have contributed to a 21% year-on-year increase in the country’s tourism revenue as Thailand generated 2 trillion baht last year and saw no fewer than 38 million visitors from overseas.
Measures rolled out during the past year include the poverty eradication through tourism campaign, the tourism clinic project, the adoption of modern technologies and innovations in the tourism and hospitality industries, and the promotion of local cultures.
As for 2019, he said Thailand will see a 7.5% increase in the number of foreign visitors or 41 million people who will contribute to a 10% year-on-year expansion in tourism revenue of 2.21 trillion baht.
Chinese tourists will account for 11% of all foreign visitors, the rest of Asia for 10%, and European tourists for 2%.
